Magnetic Susceptibility Tools

A81 High Sensitivity Range
  • 10-5 - 0.5 SI units
  • serves for measuring weakly magnetic rocks e.g. dolomites can be distinguished from limestone. A81E Extended Range
  • 10-4 - 2 SI units
  • suitable for strongly magnetic rocks where the A81 would go out of range

These probes are designed for measurement of magnetic susceptibility in boreholes.

These small-diameter probes are reliable to measure boreholes of varying diameters. The measuring range is chosen so as to identify layers containing magnetite (0.005-100%). These probes have been designed mainly for identification of Fe minerals - magnetite, pyrhotite and hematite. The data is to be used for interpret quantitative interpretation of the magnetic components in the rocks and estimation of the thickness of the layers.

This data can be used directly as basis for economic evaluation of the deposit.

The susceptibility is further measured to distinguish the types of rocks in the borehole profile in a complex of igneous or metamorphic rocks.

In a complex of sedimentary rocks, the probes provide informative data only.

The response of the probe is practically instantaneous (< 0.5s).
